SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND ARTICLES ABOUT CICA
“C. asiatica is frequently used to treat various skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and scars thanks to its soothing and rejuvenating effects. Ointments and creams containing C. asiatica extracts are formulas to support and accelerate the natural healing of minor superficial wounds such as cuts, scrapes and scratches and can be used at any stage of the healing process on superficial open wounds and damaged skin. Such formulas form a film that protects the wound from external factors while preventing it from drying out. This has been clinically proven to promote faster wound healing and reduce the risk of scarring: [4].”
“These beneficial effects are linked to its ability to accelerate wound contraction by stimulating fibronectin and collagen synthesis [ 6 ]”

***According to a preclinical study, the application of several aqueous extracts of C. asiatica, which has not been described in more detail, to open wounds in mice promoted collagen synthesis and cell proliferation at the wound site. The study reported that wounds treated with C. asiatica extract epithelialized more rapidly and had a higher wound contraction rate than untreated wounds. Asiaticoside was found to promote healing by increasing collagen formation and angiogenesis [ 14 ].

***Another in vivo study using a gel containing C. asiatica standardized extract containing madecassoside 51% and asiaticoside 38% showed healing in facial acne wound when applied after laser treatment [172]. Furthermore, asiaticoside reduced ROS generation and superoxide dismutase (SOD) reduction by increasing the activation of antioxidant levels at an early stage of the healing process through the regulation of the Smad pathway via the transforming growth factor (TGF) β1 receptor [173,174]. Through the modulation of the same pathway, asiaticoside demonstrated the ability to inhibit the growth of keloid hypertrophic scars [175].
